Scotland’s islands are known to be some of the most beautiful places on earth. These often remote havens are ruled by the elements, and here you’ll find a peace and tranquillity which is very hard to find anywhere else.

Brand new luxury eco house on Scotland’s Isle of Lewis

Located on the eastern side of the Isle of Lewis in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, the brand new Lewis Longhouse is positioned close to the beach in a peaceful area of natural beauty.  This is a unique and special place to relax and escape to, with stunning interiors and uninterrupted views from the huge windows which bring the outdoors in. The house has a luxurious and contemporary design, yet the local environment, energy conscious technology and sustainability were at the forefront of the building approach. The house is set low on the hillside with views in all directions and is in an ideal location to explore the island.

Scotland’s Private Islands – have one all to yourself!

If you thought that staying on your own private island would cost the earth, then think again.  Here at One Off Places we have just introduced two charming holiday cottages on the Isle of Scalpay – a small island on a stretch of water between the Applecross Peninsula and the Isle of Skye on Scotland’s west coast.

The island consists of 600 acres of woodland, and a plethora of freshwater lochs and burns.  There is 14 miles of shoreline and open hills rising from the sea.  It is a secluded and tranquil island retreat – the perfect place for experiencing rugged Scotland, with its abundant flora and fauna.

Believe it or not, it does not take you a week to get there either!  Fly or train to Inverness and you will find yourself just two hours from Scalpay.  A week’s holiday here will not feel like enough.  You can go boating and fishing, bird watching, walking, photography and painting.  On your walks you are quite likely to encounter birds of prey, weasels and otters.  In the sea you might be lucky enough to spot whales and dolphins.  Go mackerel fishing, take the boat to Skye and just hunker down in your very own wilderness.
