A few juicy little deals for a rainy afternoon….

If you’re someone who doesn’t have to book your summer holiday during school holidays, then read on!  I have three fabulous deals for people wanting to holiday either with pre school children, or without children at all.  If you want to get a group of friends and / or family together, then go in June or September, rather than July & August, and you will save yourself a fortune!

Villa La Lavande is a four bedroom retreat in the Cote D’Azur.  It has huge gardens, several terraces, a private heated pool, sea and mountain views.  The accommodation is spacious and stylish, and the setting is peaceful, yet you are just 20 minutes from the bars and beaches of Cannes.

Or consider this exquisite four bedroom villa on the Greek island of Corfu.  Again, panoramic sea and mountain views, a private pool, several terraces, nestled in the olive groves under Mount Pantokrator.  It sleeps up to 8 people in four spacious bedrooms, and is just a couple of miles from the gorgeous coastline.

Tennis fans? Take your pick of our One Off Places with their own Tennis Courts

There are a few facilities and features that always make a holiday property seem exclusive and luxurious (swimming pools, hot tubs, walled gardens to name but a few) and one thing that definitely falls into this category is a tennis court. Properties with private tennis courts immediately seem somehow lavish – even if the cost in no way reflects this! With that in mind, we’ve put together a selection of some of our favourite holiday rentals with tennis courts…

The traditional country house

If your idea of a tennis court is a Wimbledon-style grass court with a table of strawberries and cream next to it, then look no further than the charming Fingals in Devon. Informal and relaxed yet luxurious and full of character, this 10-bedroomed Grade II listed country house is situated in a beautiful valley and provides the perfect setting for a laidback family holiday. And never mind the tennis court, what about the croquet lawn?

The Lochside Abbey in the Scottish Highlands

Built in 1876 on the shores of Loch Ness, this Benedictine Abbey has been beautifully converted to create a number of stylish self catering properties.  Aside from the tennis court, the communal facilities at the Monastery also include a swimming pool, sauna & steam room, gym, snooker, table tennis, boules, croquet, giant chess, badminton & archery.  Not a bad selection!

The French farmhouse

If you’re a large group of friends looking for somewhere you can spend your days lounging by the pool, playing games and BBQing your meals as you look out over stunning countryside, Arnauton is for you. Lovingly renovated and housed within 5 acres of grounds in the Midi-Pyrenees region, this is a gorgeous setting and is truly a place for relaxed and stress-free living.

The Spanish eco-farm

Back to Spain and the breathtaking landscape of Extremadura. La Lancha is an extraordinary place – a self-proclaimed ‘eco-luxury farmhouse’ set within 30 hectares of olive groves, fruit orchards and fields of Merino sheep. The grounds are truly exceptional in a way that makes the swimming pool and tennis court seem almost commonplace! If you want to take your friends and family to somewhere absolutely unique then this is the place.

Ultimate luxury in a villa in Morocco

Villa Alexandra has so many wonderful features that it is hard to say which is the most appealing. Is it the cool, classic interior and stunning architecture, the serene location, the large walled garden full of scented blossoms or the pampering for which it is famous? Whichever it is, you will fall in love with this piece of paradise.  Just outside the house (which sleeps 12) is a 20m by 5m swimming pool, which has a ‘beach’ area that children will love.  The grounds also contain a clay tennis court which is well-maintained with racquets available.

Six Stylish Places to Stay in Brittany

Here at One Off Places we’re feeling that Brittany is being a bit underrated, so today’s blog is going to showcase our top six places to stay in Brittany, and remind you why it’s a fabulous destination choice.

If you’re coming from the UK, it’s just a hop across the channel.  It means you can take your own car (or rely on one of the many budget airlines for a good value flight) and you won’t end up spending most of your holiday travelling to and from your villa / holiday house.

Brittany is one of France’s most rugged regions and is a fascinating mixture of amazing coastline, charming towns, ancient woodland and magical islands.  What is more, it can provide you with a wide array of holiday rental opportunities, from cottages to castles and all points in between.

Here are our faves:

Lostmarc`h, near Morgat

This pretty stone cottage in a protected area of outstanding natural beauty is just minutes walk from one of the best beaches in Brittany. Lostmarc’h is a tiny hamlet of original stone cottages. Utterly unspoilt, (the whole village is listed) this area takes in all the wild beauty of the Atlantic and the Crozon peninsula.

3 beds / sleeps 6.  From €1100 – €1950 per week.  .

Ty Anna, near Le Faou

A super stylish hideaway. This recycled wooden chalet is exceptionally situated in one of the most scenic spots in Finistere. Nestled in idyllic natural surroundings with wide open river views, high quality furnishings mix with simple luxuries to provide the ultimate cosy escape. A small aluminium fishing boat is also available by separate agreement for those who want to fish, or explore the river.

3 beds /sleeps 5.  From €1200- €2000 per week.

Maison de Beauport, near Paimpol

Maison de Beauport is a magical house perched on the edge of a freshwater lake, just a minute’s walk from the sea and the 13th century Abbaye de Beauport. Inside is an eclectic mix of antiques, contemporary furniture and unusual features, whilst outside offers natural beauty and wildlife literally on the doorstep.

5 beds / sleeps 12.  From £950 – £1750 per week.

Bot Conan Lodge, near Quimper

Set in the ‘Baie de la Foret’ which fuses deep unspoiled countryside with a crystal clear water secluded beach just metres away, Bot Conan Lodge offers glamping at its very best. These amazing safari tents offer an idyllic setting in which to relax and enjoy life.

Each tent sleeps up to five people in two bedrooms.  From €73 – €132 per night.  .

Ty Traez, Cap Sizun

Located just 300m from the sea in an area of outstanding coastal scenery, this large ‘maison de maitre’ is full of charm and character. Homely, stylish and just a short stroll from stunning cliff paths and deserted beaches, Ty Traez is the ultimate base for an authentic Breton holiday.  There is a smaller three bedroom version next door, also available to let via One Off Places.

5 beds / sleeps 8.  From €1350 – €2500 per week.  (smaller one costs from €1200 – €2000 per week). Cap Sizun.

Kistinic Gatehouse, near Quimper

Situated just inside the entrance on the grounds of a French chateau, the gatehouse is a charming stone cottage which has been renovated to the highest of standards. And with stylish furnishings, a large private garden and access to both a swimming pool and a beautiful 15 hectare park, you couldn’t want for more.

3 beds / sleeps 6.  From £1200 – £2000 per week.

Brand New Beachfront Safari Tents in Brittany

Glamping at its very best!  Six safari tents, each with private sundeck, just metres from a secluded beach.  Set in the ‘Baie de la Foret’ where unspoilt landscapes meet a crystal clear water secluded beach, this is the ultimate spot for a back to nature holiday.  An idyllic setting in which to kick back and enjoy life.

The six ‘Archipel’ safari tents and the three ‘Atoll’ tents all have comfortable bedding and wood burning stoves.  All sit on wooden sundecks with sheltered outdoor kitchens and seating areas from where you can enjoy the view. There are two green roofed bath houses, located just a few metres from the tents with flushing toilets, hot showers, wash basins and sinks.

The lodges have a direct view of the secluded beach below but the site is fenced so children can play safely in the surrounding grounds.  The sea is super child-friendly, with no currents or big waves.

Beach in front of tents

If you ever tire of the beach and sea swimming on site (which we doubt), there are bikes available to hire on site.  The trails of Fousnant country are just waiting to be explored, there’s a golf club down the road, tennis nearby, and a whole host of watersports to get involved with including scuba diving, sailing and canoeing.  There are tiny romantic coves and white sandy beaches, and for the culture vultures, head inland to the Cathedral St Corentin and the Breton County Museum.
